Tried a completely different rendering technique for the character - specifically, that of Takehito Harada's (character artist for Disgaea) although still entirely in my own prefered proportions. This new method turns out to be much faster, better suited to production - for one, it only needed one layer, not a bazillion! (This only applies for the character - since I used to paint every single body part and accessory on separate layers which took a lot of time. It made things easier to adjust after errors though.)
As usual, there's the obligatory background too - this was, in fact, more of an exercise than a serious attempt.
Note: summer started here around March, for those who are stuck under piles of snow in the northern hemisphere right now.
