Canyon Crashsite

2 hour painting practice! Among the things I tried:
* separating elements into foreground, midfield, and background layers, each with their own values.
* Dutch angle
* 'concentrated, focused' lighting instead of 'even distribution'.

Greatly inspired by Feng Zhu Design (I'm not a student of his though, tuition in his school is like sawing one's leg off - people who got in have to be very fortunate!).

Other than that, nothing much else to say - here with have a scene of a bunch of people living in ramshackle, bolted-together houses in an arid, barren world with a large, ancient alien ship in the distance (likely thousands of years old) - it could be that the people came from the ship and forgot about it or they really just found it that way from colonization attempts gone wrong. I'll leave to interpretation!

Awesome work. I'm loving the colour and mood of this, . I also really enjoy watching his youtube videos, such great content. More than just a leg is needed.. ;)
I'd recommend reading Drawing Scenery: Landscapes and Seascapes by Jack Hamm, you can get it on amazon, or pick up the PDF online. It's helped me like crazy, and maybe you'll get something out of it as well.

Thanks for the comment. I checked out the sample pages on Amazon and damn, that book looks pretty comprehensive. :) This down-to-fundamentals kind of approach is what lures me the most. ;P

One Word. AWESOME! Oh wait. That was three words. Wait . . . that only makes it more. OH GOD >.< It never ends.

Ha ha ha. JK. But yeah. This is some awesome work. I love looking at it. There are so many things that seem so small that are actually so epic. Keep this kind of stuff up man and you'll get noticed by something major XP Love the work. Keep it up. I wanna see more OwO

Dude, quite honestly, you don't need Feng Zhu's school ESPECIALLY at the savage prices he charges. Just remember he was just like us back in the day and he worked damn hard to get where he is. Your work is stunning hope to see more soon! :)
